Headache

Headache is a very common medical problem that people are suffering from. This can be an acute episode or recurrent tendancy. Intensity of pain can vary from mild to very intense pain. It can affect person of any age. Patient can have headache on one side, both the sides or it can involve any particular area in head. Headache can be related to any underlying disease like Glaucoma, Sinusitis, brain tumor or it can occur without any underlying disease.

Common types of headache:

          There are many types of headache. But a few common types of headache are as under:

Migraine:

In migraine patient may have severe headache which is pulsating, throbbing type. Headache is usually one sided. Patient may have nausea and vomiting along with headache.

Tension headache: 

Pain in head may last from few minutes, few hours to few days. This is most common type of headache.

Cluster headache:

In cluster headache patient may have headache in one or multiple times a day. Episode can last from few minutes to few hours. These episodes may continue from few days to few weeks. In between episodes patient may be pain free for many days to months. Pain is generally around eye.

Sinus headache:

Sinus headache generally involves pain in facial bones along with head. Cheek bones and forehead are common places involved in sinus headache. This happens when there is inflammation of lining of hollow spaces in cheekbones or bones in forehead. Forehead or cheekbones may be tender to touch. Patient may have associated coryza, sore throat, cough or fever along with headache.

Does weather has any relation with headache ?

          Exposure to extreme heat or extreme cold can trigger headache.

Is there any hereditary relation in migraine ?

Although not scientifically proven but clinically it is observed that if parents are suffering from migraine then child (not all) may have migraine.

Are all headaches migraine ?

            All headaches are not migraine. Migraine is generally one sided headache and is generally associated with nausea or vomiting.
