Coronavirus can cause infection of respiratory tract and commonly affect nose, throat and cough. Patient can also have fever and shortness of breath. MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) were a few types of Coronavirus which were serious and it outbreak lead to even hundreds of deaths in past. Recently a new Coronavirus: 2019 novel coronavirus has been identified in January 2020 which was temporarily named as “2019-nCov”. Now it is called Covid-19. More than eighty million people have already been diagnosed as suffering from Covid-19 till last week of Dec 2020. More than 1.7 million of people have been diagnosed to be died of Coron Virus till last week of Dec 2020. 

Sign and Symptoms:

Symptoms can vary from patient to patient:

           Cold

           Sore Throat

           Cough

           Fever or chills

           Shortness of breath

             Loss of taste

           Loss of smell 

           Body ache

           Nausea or vomiting

           Diarrhoea

If infection spreads to lower respiratory tract then patient may have Pneumonia.

Coronavirus infection spreads from infected person to others by coughing , sneezing. 

Contact like touching face/hand/nose of infected person.

Touching of Utensils/furniture etc. which have been touched by patient infected with Coronavirus.

Who is at high risk of developing serious illness ?   

Older people with diabetes, heart disease or lungs disease are at more risk of developing serious illness.  

Complications:

            People with old age/ low immunity/ suffering from other illnesses may have severe form of infection. If infection travels to lower respiratory tract than patient may have Pneumonia and may lead to death. Till date more than two lac thirty thousand people have been diagnosed as suffering from Covid 2019 and more than eight lac people have already died. But their are many cases which have been cured. Please strictly adhere to preventive measures.

 

Prevention and treatment:

          Keep distance of one meter from person having cough or is sneezing.

         You need to wear mask if you are taking care of person with suspected 2019-nCoV         

         infection.

         Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.

         Before putting on mask clean hands with alcohol based handrub or soap and water.

         Clean your hands with soap and water.

         Alcohol based sanitizer can be used for sanitizing your hands.

         Donot touch the front of Masks are effective only when used in combination with

        frequent hand clean with alcohol based handrub or soap and water. 

         Replace the mask when it is damp and donot reuse single use mask.

          While removing the mask remove it from behind and donot touch the front of mask.

        Throw used mask in closed bin and clean hands with alcohol based handrub of soap and water.

        Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily like door, table, doorknobs, handles, desk, phone,

        keybord, mouse, utensils regularly.

        Patient infected with Coronavirus should use mask and must be isolated.

        Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth without cleaning your hands.
